A district cooling plant distributes chilled water from a central plant to individual buildings through a network of underground pipes.

A single district cooling plant can satisfy the cooling needs of several buildings and customers. Water is chilled to about  40°F (4.44°C) and delivered to the buildings where it circulates through refrigeration coils. Fans blow the building's air across the coils, which cool the air.
